Tactical Athlete Book Review:

Book: Bodyweight Exercises for Extraordinary Strength by Brad Johnson.

I highly recommend this unique, value-packed book.  The title says it all.  If you are interested in developing extraordinary strength, then look no further.  There are over 50 exercises that will keep you busy and challenged for many years to come.  It’s written in a straight forward, "no non-sense/no fluff" style.  If you’re looking to get as strong as possible at the lowest body weight, then this is the book for you.

Listed below is an example of one of my favorite exercises:

"Bottoms-up Kettlebell Crush Push-up"

I like to refer to it as a “shooter’s push up”, because it will definitely tighten up your shot group and enhance recoil management.

  • Place the KB upside down, handle running head-to-toe.
  • Place your hands on the sides of the ball portion of the KB.  This creates an unstable environment which provides an even greater challenge.
  • Perform a push up by pressing your palms hard into the sides and simultaneously pressing the kettlebell hard into the floor to keep it from tipping over.
  • Practice this exercise from the kneeling position until you get the hang of it.  Ultimately, you want to perform this exercise from the full push up (i.e. legs extended, weight on balls of feet.)
